Rice - best food crop for hydroponics (though you must be kinda crazy to rely on hydroponics as a source of food, at least it grows fast enough that you may live for the meantime on NPD), otherwise outdone by corn since it’s so much less work intensive Useful for early game clothing though even then thrumbofur from spike trapped corridors is often available together with leather and wool

Smokeleaf - bad cash crop, terrible drug unless you REALLY need to calm down a colonist without getting them hooked. If you want drugs, use wake-up as it isn’t addictive. Psychoid - Most drugs produced are useful but keeping a whole colony hooked means it becomes just as vital as food, which means you’ll have to waste greenhouse space for a patch if this. Haygrass - just use nutrient pasted food crops feeds dogs and are more efficient unless you do the kibble exploit but I don’t count exploits
Potato - worse than rice in nutrition output EVEN IN GRAVEL (according to the wiki) they’re supposed to be gravel resistant seriously Strawberry - bad nutrition yield, theoretically best cash crop if you have little space or a lot of growers because it makes 2.3 silver per day, but most of the time for cash crops you’ll have a huge area covered because you don’t need the blight safety/year round greenhouses you need for food crops so it’s all about gain/work (gain/plant) not gain/plant/day which goes to the best plant Psychite tea is also pretty much objectively better than chocolate. Don’t waste your time on a non greenhouseable work intensive and wacky plant.
